Impreza hits 450bhp with Garrett ballbearing turbo

27 April 2009

newsOwen Development's 'drop in' Garrett ball Subaru turbocharger really performs - here's the proof! Our own 2.0-litre Spec C Subaru Impreza is now running the external wastegate version of the ball bearing, single scroll unit (part no: OD-TBO-SUB-005) and despite a modest state of tune (MoTec M800 ECU, tubular manifolds, sports exhaust and larger fuel injectors,) the EJ20 produced 451bhp at 6484 rpm, allied to 375lb.ft at 4876 rpm, using 1.7 bar of boost.

Boost builds strongly from 2500rpm and the car remains tractable, quiet, user-friendly and as you can see, the underbonnet appearance on our Spec C looks remarkably standard, right down to the factory airbox. Put your foot down though and Owen's Garrett ball bearing unit delivers serious, unstressed performance turbocharged performance - everything you'd expect from an Owen Developments upgrade, in fact!news
