Baggsy Crowned King of Kings and Dutch Time Attack Domination!

07 October 2014

Quite a weekend for Owen Developments boosted teams and drivers; in Dutch Time Attack Bo Nielsen and Rich Marshall were both knocking on the door of Championship victory in their respective classes, meanwhile Steve ‘Baggsy’ Biagioni was at the King of Europe Superfinal-the King of Kings against the best in Europe, how would he stack up?

King of Europe Finals - King of Kings

The weekend saw the final event of the King of Europe series this year; King of Kings, the Superfinal in Malta. Having come within touching distance of the King of Europe (winning rookie of the year in the process) and British Drift Championship Titles Owen’s sponsored driver Steve ‘Baggsy’ Biagioni (ODGT3076HTA-M) would be in attendance and looking for a big result to finish off the season.

Baggsy started off the event in the best possible way, qualifying first and earning himself a bye through the Top 16. Qualifying first in a very strong field is no small feat; there were Champions from across Europe competing including newly-crowned King of Europe Champion Adam Kerenyi.

The battles were delayed due to bad weather, but luckily it cleared enough to finish the event. In the wet conditions of the battles, Baggsy blew away the competition. His chase runs were consistent, and in his lead runs he was consistently pulling huge gaps without compromising his line or angle, which is nice if you can manage it! He made his way to the final against Adam Kerenyi, and Baggys’s consistency paid off, pulling a huge gap on his lead run and staying on Adam’s door on his chase run, even so the battle still went One More Time.

The judges gave the Baggsy the victory, and the title of King of Kings 2014 which comes with the largest cash prize in European drifting, not a bad day’s work! Congratulations to Steve from everyone here at Owen’s! More of the same next year please!

  Dutch Time Attack

Meanwhile the finals of the Dutch Time Attack Championship were taking place at Assen, with Owen Developments being represented by Rich Marshall and his Evo IX (ODT04-88HTA-M) in the Extreme Class, and by Bo Nielsen in his Astra VXR in the Super Pro Street Class (ODGT2871HTA-M). Both drivers went into the event leading their respective classes; the pressure was on to become Champion!

The event was heavily affected by rain, though that didn’t stop Bo as he stormed to first in qualifying by over a second. Rich was struggling more in his Evo and was unable to worry his Championship rivals in qualifying; the finals would be run in dry weather however and would play right into his hands.

In the finals Bo didn’t quite manage a final class win of the season, ending up second but this was enough for him to take the Super Pro Street Title in his Owens boosted and Mapped VXR! Congratulations Bo! Rich Marshall would continue the success taking the Extreme Class Title by a truly impressive 129 points, well done Rich! The question now is whether he can take the Time Attack UK Pro Championship as well, which would cap an amazing first season with Owens boost!
