Heavyweight punch, middleweight size- Owen Developments launches the GT35 40-94HTA

Large power output engines have large cooling requirements and with radiators, intercoolers and oil coolers to install, the demands on underbonnet space are many and varied. That’s especially true in the automotive aftermarket where wholescale ‘big’ engine transplants into smaller vehicles are commonplace in the pursuit of high performance.

All of which can leave little room for that vital component – the turbocharger. Hence why BTCC control turbo supplier and renowned forced induction expert Owen Developments is pleased to announce the launch of a turbocharger which combines the boost potential of a Garrett GT4094 into the more compact framework of a Garrett GT35 unit, making it an ideal solution for situations where under bonnet space is restrictive but high outputs are required.

Designed to be interchangeable with the standard Garrett GT35 unit (with minor modifications) the external wastegate oil and water cooled GT3540-94HTA produces outstanding levels of performance courtesy of its advanced technical features, which include:-

  • Owen Developments Garrett GT ball bearing centre housing
  • Lightweight billet alloy 94mm HTA compressor wheel with advanced aerodynamics
  • CNC machined 0.7 a/r ratio 4 inch ported shroud compressor housing
  • 0.82 or 1.06 a/r ratio turbine housing options
  • A choice of Garrett T3 or T4 format compatible inlet with a 4 bolt or ‘V’-band outlets for ease of disassembly

The Owen Development’s CNC machined 4 inch diameter ported shroud compressor housing boasts an a/r ratio of 0.7, meaning that the GT3540-94HTA avoids surge at high boost pressures, while the use of a billet aluminium compressor wheel ensures the ultimate aerodynamic efficiency for the cold side of the turbo.

At its core the GT3540-94HTA uses a Garrett GT ball bearing centre housing modified by Owen Developments using motorsport proven techniques to provide unbeatable levels of reliability, while the customers are offered a choice of either Garrett T3 or T4 compatible inlets on the turbine side, with a four bolt outlet or an optional ‘V’-band outlet. The ‘V’-band fitment upgrade allows for rapid disassembly of the GT3540-94HTA unit and is a popular option for motorsport use.

Fully machined and hand assembled in-house at Owen Developments by the same experienced personnel who build the firm’s renowned BTCC control turbochargers, the GT3540-94HTA unit is subjected to a stringent balancing process to ensure that it delivers up to 900 bhp reliably and consistently.
