Darren's Scotland British MX Championship Report 23-04-06
"I had a really hectic week running around trying to get the van and bike ready for the long trip to Scotland for the 2nd BEC round at Lossiemouth. We were finally ready to leave at 6.20am on Thursday morning and arrived in Aberdeen at 4.30pm only leaving a further 1.5 hours to Lossiemouth in the morning.
The event started well, where I finished some of the special tests in the top 15, then with my fitness starting to dwindle (due to lack of bike time!) and having been riding for 8 hours, I dropped down the order a bit to finish 23rd overall in the Championship class and 13th overall in the E Class - a good day!
Sunday I only had 6 hours in the saddle and I had quite a few special tests with some times inside the top 15 again which was great, although I did loose time on one MX test and one cross country test on the second lap due to a very worn front sprocket caused by the amount of sand on the course. This had to be changed after the MX test, where I had 7 minutes to do the work before I had to go through the check.
The third lap was pleasing with a steady cross country test and a back to back MX test at the end, which was a good experience to be involved in and especially as some of the expert riders I rode with last year had all stayed to cheer me on which really helped!
All in all I was "well chuffed" to get this one under my belt - my first finish in the Championship class BEC in 23rd and 20th place overall and 13th and 12th place in the E1 class".
Well done Darren - we are very proud of you! Keep the reports coming in and some new photos too!
Ps: You have not mentioned your excellent support team (wife and baby!) Did they go with you this time? A good support team is invaluable and as all us wives know, they deserve a mention too!
