Owens Chosen as Sole Turbo Supplier to Indy Lights Field
New Dallara IL-15 to have Owens boosted AER Engine
We are pleased to announce that Owen Developments will be supplying the Indy Lights Series with turbochargers from the 2015 season. This four year deal in partnership with series engine builder Advanced Engine Research (AER) will see Owens turbos in places they’ve never been before, such as the Grand Prix of Long Beach and the most famous race circuit in America; Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home of the Indy 500.
Indy Lights is the final rung in the American single-seater ladder known as the Mazda Road to Indy, feeding drivers into the premier IndyCar Series. Indy Lights is well known for the exceptional closeness of its racing, even for a single-make series; they hold the record for the closest ever finish in a motor race of just 0.0005 seconds (or 42 mm at 188 mph!).
Having previously supplied turbochargers to high-profile single-seater series such as FIA Formula 2, Owens are experienced in this kind of application and developed an ODGT3071HTA-M-ICL turbocharger for Indy Lights. This turbo features the M-Spec upgrades available to all our customers, giving it the durability to match AER’s bulletproof P63 inline four engine in going a full season, some 6,000 miles, without a rebuild. The complete package will make around 450hp, with an extra 50 available if the driver presses their ‘push-to-pass’ button, and has already broken records set by the previous car and engine combination including lapping Indianapolis at over 191mph.
We’re looking forward to rounds 1 and 2 in St. Petersburg, Florida at the weekend even if it means we miss some sleep!
